A little personal

Hi there!  My name is Dave Geib and as you can see I am a HUGE MuzicBuff!

My love for music pretty much started when I was very young because my father was and still is a mobile Disc Jockey introducing me to Elvis of course and my favorite band to this date The Beatles.

My brother and I would watch this cartoon religiously every day when we got home from school.

The Beatles pretty much started my music obsession and as I got to about 9 years old, I started listening to the radio which introduced me to a lot of other music, like Pop, Country and god knows how much more.

Songs I remember from 1979 through 1980:

I Love A Rainy Night - Eddie Rabbitt  Heart of Glass - Blondie  Best Of Times - Styx  Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen

Blondie Heart of Glass single sleeve

In 1980 I then bought my very first 45 with my own allowance money.  A Little In Love - Cliff Richard

Then all hell broke loose.  I heard the song BETTE DAVIS EYES by Kim Carnes and that was it.  My obsession with Pop music started.Kim Carnes

Kim Carnes became my all time favorite female singer and remains my

favorite female singer.  Why?  Because her music is raw and undeniably her.

I followed her career from that moment on and watched as that song stayed

number one on the Billboard Charts for 9 weeks.

I noticed at the local record store "Rainbow Records" in Highland Park, IL

the Chicago station WLS posted it's own weekly charts:

I collected every one of these charts from the point that Bette Davis Eyes dropped from #1 on that chart PLUS that was when I started my own chart because I wanted the songs to stay at number one.

My first chart was a Top...12 and escalated into a Top 25, to a Top 40 and 25 years later a Top 100.  I have used music to pretty much document my life the same way as many people use a diary for.

Throughout the 1980's I accumulated about 4000 45's and treated my records as if they were gold.  As a lot of people know in 1986 the CD was commercially available everywhere which changed the music business.  Even though the vinyl 45 was widely available at the time, I did start collecting CD's.  My very first CD's you may ask?

Madonna's TRUE BLUE                         and       Wham!'s MUSIC FROM THE EDGE OF HEAVEN

My CD collection has grown to an unbelievable amount of over 5900.  I have one whole bedroom filled with my 45's and CD's and I keep on buying more.  Unlike a lot of people, I have used the downloading technology to discover new songs and artists.  I prefer to have the actual CD with the cover art.  That is half the fun of buying music!  Support the artists who give us the gift of music and buy their CD's or purchase their songs on Legal means of distribution.  There, that is all I will preach about.  :-)

Other than collecting music, I write my own lyrics.  I have over 200 songs I have written over the last 20 years waiting to come out.  Who knows, maybe one day Celine Dion or Whitney Houston will hear one of my songs and record it.  One can only hope.

On a more personal note, my life is relatively simple and I try my best to keep it that way.  Besides music, the endless fight to keep in shape, making more money, work. work, work and helping my family pretty much takes up the bulk of my time.

I have an awesome roommate and partner, Paul.  We have been through hell and high water and still manage to enjoy each other's company.  The picture below was taken in 2004.  Paul is on the left and I am on the right.  Here's to the future!!!!
